What is a perfume decant and why it makes sense

A decant is a smaller amount of perfume transferred directly from the original bottle into a smaller container – usually a glass spray atomizer. The scent is exactly the same as in the full bottle; only the bottle changes.

Why not a sample?

A 1–2 ml sample lasts a handful of wears. That is not enough to learn how a fragrance develops through the day, in warm and cold weather. A 10 ml decant holds roughly 120–150 sprays – weeks of regular wear.

How a decant is made

  • An original retail bottle with proof of purchase.
  • Hygienic hand-filling with clean tools.
  • A new glass atomizer labelled with its fill date.

Who a decant is for

If you are considering an expensive perfume, want a scent for travel or like to rotate fragrances, a decant is the most sensible way to own a luxury perfume without buying the full bottle.
